Day 31: Amunì compà, Uma & Marco race to Sicily!: 32km from Vetralla to Campagnano
"L'important in the vie c'est pas le triophe mais le combat. L'essentiel ce n'est pas avoir vaincu, mais de s'être bien battu!"
The route:
Today starts off wet and cold in Vetralla (@Tom: I'm omitting the morning Cornetto battle here, because by the end of the tour I'll probably have eaten a good 200...).
The first few kilometers lead through vast hazelnut plantations to the lively town of Capranica. There, I stop at a pharmacy, where I follow my mother's advice and rub devil's claw into my knees. In the next town, Sutri, I meet Sabine, and we duly celebrate the 1,000 kilometers we've completed with a delicious panino.
Good? Bad? Ugly?
Our destination today is Campagnano and Sabine's keen nose led us to the beautiful accommodation of Eva, a Norwegian woman who couldn't stand the bad weather and the meager food at home any longer😜
The "Sicilian Corps" is now at the gates of Rome, and tomorrow's stage will be the last on the Via Francigena, ending in St. Peter's Square.
A total distance of 32km and 305 meters of elevation.
