Day 25: Amunì compà, Uma & Marco race to Sicily!: 31km from San Gimignano to Siena
"It's what you do in the dark that puts you in the light." (Michael Jordan)
The route:
What helps against the pain?
Exactly, into the pain! At some point it will subside 😛
Today's stage to Siena was extremely varied; many trails, shady forest sections with lots of mud, and then the complete contrast: dirt roads in the blazing sun (clearly my favorite, less so for Uma!).
There were magnificent views of the Tuscan hills in beautiful weather and a kitschy stopover in Monteriggioni - a real surprise with massive city walls, defensive towers and charming hotels, bars and trattorias.
Good? Bad? Ugly?
Sabine's keen nose led us to our next surprise: the Agriturismo Certosa di Pontigagno, a former monastery that will now offer us weary pilgrims/nomads comfortable accommodations and dinner. The monastic tranquility is the perfect place for tomorrow's rest day.
A total distance of 31km and 517 meters of altitude.
